Emergency Dentistry Q & A

What can I do in a dental emergency?

Being available in the event of a dental emergency is a top priority at Michael S. Yung DDS. If you or your family member is experiencing a dental emergency, call the office to schedule your same-day appointment.

What if the office is closed?

Emergencies don’t always happen at convenient times. That’s why the providers at Michael S. Yung DDS always have an on-call dentist available even if you call after hours or on a weekend or holiday. When the office is closed, the voicemail greeting includes the phone number of the on-call dentist. If the on-call dentist does not pick up, leave a detailed message explaining the emergency, and they will quickly respond with help.

What should I do until it’s possible to see a dentist?

Unfortunately, in a dental emergency, you or a loved one are likely to be in considerable pain and concerned about saving a tooth. When you call, our providers or a member of the staff provides advice about what to do in the time before your same-day appointment.

To prepare for your next dental emergency, here are some guidelines for how to respond before your emergency dental appointment with Michael S. Yung DDS:

Toothaches

Rinse your mouth with warm water and gently remove any food with dental floss. Do not put aspirin on the gums near the aching tooth; doing so can cause a burning sensation and even lead to lasting gum damage.

Knocked-Out Tooth

Gently try to put your tooth back into the socket. If you can’t, place the tooth in milk, or a glass of water with a pinch of table salt, if you do not have milk.

Cracked Tooth

Rinse your mouth with warm water. If you notice swelling, apply a cold compress to the outside of your mouth or cheek. If there’s bleeding, apply gauze to the area until the bleeding stops. Call the office of Michael S. Yung DDS, or request an appointment online.
